Caterham AeroSeven Concept [w/Video]

Fri, 20 Sep 2013

Caterham has unveiled its motorsport-inspired AeroSeven Concept road car at the Singapore Grand Prix.

The two-seater concept previews the carmaker's future engineering and design direction for models including the sportscar being developed in collaboration with Renault for early 2016. The AeroSeven Concept is going into production next year and is the first model to be designed and developed with input from all three of Caterham's divisions: Caterham Technology and Innovation, Caterham F1 Team and Caterham Cars.

First images of the concept show it features the same long nose and roofless, cab-rearward cockpit as the Caterham Seven, but is very different in that it's clad in carbon fiber bodywork. The AeroSeven Concept features more downforce and improved aerodynamics, but there's no details on the drag coefficient at the moment.

The cockpit, which features sunken seats, is a showcase of new technology we can expect in future models, including a new hi-res unit that integrates all displays and instrumentation centrally mounted on the minimalist dashboard. It shows information such as vehicle speed, gear selection, traction and brake settings and fuel and oil levels in a 3D display, while the steering wheel features F1-style controls.
